Enjoy a day’s flyfishing on a beautiful private beat of the River Kennet for two Rods, with guide, tuition, equipment, riverside picnic and a night’s stay (dinner and breakfast included) at an 18th-century inn by the water. This exclusive experience is suitable for beginners and experienced flyfishers alike.
Arrive the night before and settle in for a relaxing stay at The Dundas Arms, a beautiful inn nestled between the Kennet and the Kennet and Avon canal. This grade II listed building is full of nooks and crannies, with large fireplaces, a handsomely decorated dining room and cosy library, but during the spring and summer months it’s the large garden, surrounded by water on two sides, that you’re most likely to want to spend time in — this is the perfect place to chill out with a local ale or something stronger. In the evening, head indoors to enjoy a delicious A la Carte dinner, before kipping in your en-suite room, where a sumptuous twin or king-sized bed awaits. In the morning, a cooked breakfast with a continental buffet will put you in good stead for your day on the river.
At 10am you will be collected from the inn and taken to the Craven fishery, one of the premium trout fishing beats on the River Kennet. This peaceful private stretch of chalkstream is carefully managed by a full-time riverkeeper and holds mainly brown trout with some rainbow and grayling. Your guide will provide everything you need for a day on the river including premium Sage rods, Hardy reels and flies. Famous Fishing’s experienced guides all have the Game Angling Instructors Association level 2 and are as happy teaching novices as they are coaching experienced anglers in advanced techniques. He will be on hand all day to help tie flies, show you the best place to cast and improve your skills.
Lunch is a delicious gourmet picnic on the island in the river. Treats including cold meats, artisan cheeses, olives, breads and locally sourced hot smoked Charlie’s Trout, paired with a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet or similar selection.
After a glorious afternoon’s sport you will be dropped back at the Dundas Arms in time to head back home — or a bath and a la carte dinner in the restaurant if you’ve booked an additional night’s stay with us.
